I have a few questions for all you parents out there.
- Is your child snoring when they are sleeping?
- Are they sleeping with their mouths open?
- Are they grinding their teeth?
- Are they having chronic ear infections?
- Is your toddler having trouble focusing at school?
- Are they restless during the day?
- Are they still wetting their beds?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child might have an upper airway obstruction, which can lead to sleep apnea. Your child not sleeping and breathing properly at night can adversely affect their academic performance and growth and even delay their speech.
Imagine, how we function when we do not get a good night’s rest.
Furthermore, a lot of our children are being misdiagnosed for ADHD and being placed on unnecessary meds.
Unfortunately the vast majority of health care professionals are unaware of the negative impact that mouth breathing has on the normal facial growth and physiologic health. Children who’s mouth breathing goes untreated leads to long narrow faces, narrow mouths, dark circles under the eyes, and other unattractive facial features such as crooked teeth, gummy smiles, open bites, under bites and not to mention the likelihood of TMJ symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, vertigo etc, in the future.
We have been helping many patients who have been suffering from debilitating TMJ symptoms. We here at Bushdid Smiles are big advocates of preventive and Complete Health Dentistry. If you can address these issues now while our children are still developing, you can save them from years of suffering later.
If you suspect that your child is suffering from mouth breathing, please bring them in to see us now before school begins. We will be conducting Complementary airway assessments, so please call us today at 305-444-5926 to schedule their appointment. Thank you and God Bless.
